May 2024 · 5 minute read

Boruto Episode 293, the Mid-series finale of the anime, aired recently. Fans are going crazy over how the code arc played out in the anime. After Kawaki attacks Boruto, the latter seems to be dead. Is Boruto dead?

Boruto Episode 293 “farewell”

Boruto Episode 293 starts with Naruto reflecting on Boruto’s past as he unsuccessfully tries to wake him up. The death of Boruto at Kawaki’s hands and the appearance of his Kāma is a surprise to Code. Ada cautions him against considering offering Kawaki as a sacrifice for the God Tree in place of Boruto. Code warns that if Kawaki approaches, he will murder Shikamaru. Code releases Shikamaru since Kawaki is unconcerned and wants to flee. In order to prevent Code from using his Claw Marks, Kawaki shrinks them.

Kawaki makes fun of Code, saying that by killing Boruto, it should be obvious how far he will go to protect Naruto. He attacks and puts pressure on Code. Shikamaru stresses that the battle is still ongoing as she goes to check on Naruto, who is still in shock and denial over what happened. Code is blasted in the face by Kawaki, who warns him that if the person seeking to meet him is also opposed to Naruto, he won’t show them any mercy either.

Daemon is woken up by Code

Code yanked Daemon through the Claw Mark on his head to reflect the attack, and Kawaki is knocked out. Code apologizes to Ada for waking Daemon since she is upset that he was involved without her consent. Daemon wants to engage in combat, but Code returns him to Ada. She cautions him that he has been acting quite independently and emphasizes that Kawaki better be alright. Code claims that she can see Kawaki herself, and she assures him that she will send Daemon to kill him if Kawaki dies.

Code reluctantly acknowledges that right now, he lacks the strength to defeat Kawaki. When he rushes to fetch Kawaki, Shikamaru tries to pin him and announces that reinforcements are on their way. Code believes it to be a bluff, but Shikamaru points out that he was worn out from fighting Kawaki, so he decides not to take a chance. Code departs, asking that Shikamaru tell Amado that he will use him to have his limiters removed.

This part was done a lot better in the anime. In ch 67 Code could've just brought kawaki with him to eida but he didn't. He just ran off like an idiot. That didn't make sense in the manga but the anime fixed it by Shikamaru actually doing something.#Boruto #Boruto293 pic.twitter.com/bk933cr2ai

Boruto wakes up?

Shikamaru questions Naruto about the precautions that need to be taken with Kawaki in light of his lengths to defend Naruto. Naruto won’t blame Kawaki. Shikamaru struggles to accept Naruto’s denial of holding Kawaki accountable for Boruto’s demise. To their shock, Boruto moves and inquires who’s dead. Naruto hugs him while crying with joy. Momoshiki can communicate with Boruto and now has new markings on his torso. Momoshiki reveals in Boruto Episode 293 that Boruto is his vessel and the anchor of his soul, so his demise would put him out like Isshiki.

He admits that to rebuild the pieces of Boruto’s body that were destroyed, he had to use the Kāma that was still inside him. As a result, Momoshiki is unable to employ āKma to resurrect. Boruto assumes that this means he has won, but Momoshiki points out that because Kāma has been extracted, he is now fully Ōtsutsuki and can be sacrificed to grow a God Tree, which Code will soon realize.

Momoshiki further states that Boruto won’t be revived in such a manner again, but Boruto counters by pointing out that he was mistaken in the past and mentioning his earlier warnings. Momoshiki chuckles, claiming there is no connection between the two issues and anticipating how it would turn out.

MOMOSHIKI'S LAUGH IS RIGHT UP THERE WITH KIRA'S LAUGH. Goddamnn, that's so so so menacing 😭😭. Momo is too straight forward with it. "It's gonna be a true spectacle" manga readers can relate to this 🥲 #BORUTO #Boruto293 #anitwt pic.twitter.com/VUqijaU0at

Boruto Episode 293 ending recap review – Kawaki is saved and tease of a time skip

Naruto and Shikamaru listen as Boruto describes the details of his resurrection. Ada informs Code of these changes. She reminds the Code of the conditions of their agreement. She forewarns him that she will dispose of him without hesitation if he continues to be useless after his limiters are removed. If so, She finds him to be a bother. She receives his assurance that action has already been taken. In the hospital, Sumire is tending to Kawaki as he awakens. He questions why he isn’t in jail for killing Boruto, and Sumire responds that Boruto is OK.

After Amado returned his kama, Kawaki remarked that he was glad to have it for the first time because Naruto would have perished without it. Later, at the Hokage Rock, Boruto and Kawaki discuss what “everything” means to each of them. As Boruto is keen to disprove Momoshiki, Kawaki is determined to eradicate any threats to Naruto. A flashforward depicts the beginning of their altercation on Hokage Rock. Boruto Episode 293 ends here.
