Lightning: something people fear, and something we often see in the background of cheesy horror films. It’s reported by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (better known as the CDC) that around 40 million lightning strikes hit the ground in the US alone every year, and up to 500 people get struck by it every year. This makes getting stuck by lightning around a 1 in 500,000 chance. And within that number, quite a few celebrities have fallen into those crazy odds.

While the CDC also reported that almost 90 percent of lightning strike victims survive, quite a few still pass. And within those numbers, quite a few celebrities have fallen into that statistic as well.
The most recent instance was in the summer of 2022 when One Tree Hill star Bevin Prince’s husband William Friend was struck and killed by lightning, per NBCNews.
While our hearts are with the families of those who passed, people have been fascinated and horrified by the prospect of lightning strikes.

Martha Stewart
Not only has Martha Stewart been struck by lightning, but she’s been struck by lightning three different times. In a previous game on Ellen DeGeneres show, playing Two Truths and a Lie, Stewart detailed the three separate times she was struck by lightning. “Once, it came out of my water faucet. I was leaning against an iron sink,” she said. “I saw the lightning go down the pipe out in my garden, and then it came back up through the water and hit me right in my stomach — threw me to the floor!”
Jim Caviezel
Passion of the Christ star Jim Caviezel previously revealed that on the last day of shooting, he and assistant director Jan Michelini were struck by lightning. He told FOX News: “It [the cross] fell on my head, and I bit through my tongue and cheek.”
John White
Scottish footballer John White tragically died after being struck by lightning in 1964. He was playing golf at the Crews Hill golf course, and tried to hide under a tree, but it struck through the tree and into White, per World Soccer.
Geremi González
Another public figure to tragically die after being struck by lightning was baseball player Geremi González. The former player for the Chicago Cubs, Tampa Bay Devil Rays, Boston Red Sox, New York Mets, and the Milwaukee Brewers was vacationing on a beach in Venezuela, and was suddenly struck by lightning while on it in 2008, per CBC.
Sharon Stone
In a previous appearance on the Films to Be Buried With podcast per Express, Sharon Stone Revealed that she was struck by lightning, saying: “I was at home. We had our own well. I was filling the iron with water. I had one hand on the faucet, one hand on the iron, and the well got hit with lightning, and the lightning came up through the water. I got picked up and thrown across the kitchen, and I hit the refrigerator. I was like, “Whoa!”
