A high school football player who collapsed during a football game on Sept. 8 has passed away.

The Jersey Shore Area School District said in a Facebook post that Max Engle passed away yesterday.

"Our family feels immensely blessed to have spent 17 beautiful years with Max. It is difficult not to feel cheated, but we are trying to focus on how fortunate we are to have had him in our lives. He will be greatly missed every single day and we know he will be with us in everything we do," the statement from the family read in part.

Engle collapsed towards the end of the game at Selinsgrove High School.

He was then taken to a hospital from the field in an ambulance.

Over the course of the week, Engle's condition declined and local schools wore orange to show support.

The football game versus Shikellamy that was supposed to take place Sept. 15 has been rescheduled for Monday, Sept. 18 at 7:05pm in the Thompson Street Stadium.
