Johnstown woman opens boutique after years of online success, pandemic doesn't stop her

During the pandemic when some businesses are being forced to close, a new business has emerged in Cambria County.

Barb’s Boutique, next to the Johnstown Galleria opened their doors Monday morning, located inside the building where Ryan’s restaurant closed in 2016. Barb Krcha decided to open the store after years of success online.

“I started a business on eBay selling little girl’s clothing and it just kind of bloomed. I ended up going into men’s clothes and women’s clothes. Been doing that for 8 years and my husband and I just kept talking about doing something like this,” said Krcha.

After months of preparing, the coronavirus pandemic pushed their schedule back even further.

“We fully intended on being here in January to start a three-month process of setting up and pricing things. And when we got in here the beginning of March, of course COVID happened,” said Krcha.

Despite the pandemic hitting, Barb’s Boutique finally opened in July. There’s a little something for everybody inside, from clothes and jewelry to home décor and craft supplies.

“I like everything. I like to spend my money on good jewelry. It’s not expensive,” said one customer, Norma Hammer.

And Krcha says she believes opening the boutique was worth the wait.

“I come in here sometimes and it’s surreal. I look around and I’m like is this really mine, is this really ours. It’s a great feeling. I’m excited,” said Krcha.
