A woman running for Huntingdon County commissioner is accused of strangling her daughter during an argument on Friday, authorities say.

According to a criminal complaint, Andrea Speck, 41, became angry with her daughter for an unknown reason when her daughter got home from work.

The criminal complaint states that Speck began yelling at her daughter after leading her into her bedroom before striking her in the head from behind.

State police say Speck grabbed her daughter by her neck and also grabbed onto her hair and began pushing her into the walls and corners of the room.

According to the criminal complaint, Speck's daughter called two other individuals during the altercation for assistance.

The criminal complaint states that Speck and her daughter took the argument outside in order to get away from Speck's daughter's little brother.

According to state police, Speck's daughter then began packing her bags to leave as her friends arrived, but Speck held her around the neck to the point where she could not breathe for between 10 to 15 seconds.

State police say Speck continued to hold her daughter by the hair as she made attempts to leave.

According to the criminal complaint, Speck's daughter managed to slip out of her shirt during the struggle and escape with her friends to a nearby gas station.

State police say they observed red marks on Speck's daughter's neck as a result of the altercation.

Online court dockets show that Speck is facing one felony charge of strangulation, one charge of simple assault and one charge of harassment.

Court dockets also show that she is currently being held at the Huntingdon County Prison after being unable to post bail with a preliminary hearing scheduled for May 10.
